TOURISM Minister Desley Boyle now has an $8 million war chest to combat a cut in Qantas flights between Cairns and Japan after the Federal Government today matched Queensland's $4 million emergency support package.

Ms Boyle will fly to China as early as next week hoping to convince Chinese airlines to set up routes to Queensland destinations or increase established services.

The government will also target other Asian countries, including South Korea.

Premier Anna Bligh said the incentive funding would help bring forward new business opportunities for major Asian airlines.

"Tough times call for tough measures," Ms Bligh said.

"These funds will provide a boost for domestic and international marketing campaigns but will also put money in Desley's back pocket to bring interested airlines to Queensland sooner."
